Read Across America Week / Post Test Week

March 3-6
This week is Read Across America Week! it is also Post Test week.  We will be testing in yellow pod Monday - Thursday.  We will be testing in reading, math, and language.  We will be sending home a story to read and spelling words for children to practice.  Students will not be tested on the spelling words, but the sounds they need to know. 


The Book Fair will be open all week in the lunchroom.  Students who have money will be able to shop during your child's lunch time.  Please feel free to come eat lunch with your child.  Yellow pod classes eat between 11:35 - 12:05 (contact your child's teacher for their specific time)
Monday, March 3- Fox in Socks Day: Wear silly socks and Dr. Seuss t-shirt
Tuesday, March 4- Green Eggs and Ham: wear green.  Tonight is Family Reading Night it begins at 6:00.  Pizza will be served at 5:30 (reservation forms have already been sent home) Choirs will sing, book fair will be open, and door prizes will be given!
Wednesday, March 5- Wacky Wednesday- Wear wacky clothes (mismatched, inside out, ect)
Thursday, March 6- I Am Not going to get Up Today- Wear Pajamas
Friday, March 7- Cat in the Hat day- Dr. Seuss Birthday celebration- Costume Parade- Dress up as any Dr. Seuss character.

Reading:

·     Story of the week- “Mister Bones: Dinosaur Hunter”

·     Sounds: long o: oa and ow (ex: boat and yellow)

·     High Frequency words – will, write

·     Reviewing sentences

 Your child should be reading every night.


Spelling words:

     1. blow        7. row

2. boat         8. snow

3. coat         9. soap

4. loaf        10. yellow

5. pillow    11. will

6. road       12. write

 

Math: This week the students will be learning how reviewing the skills learned this quarter.
Your child should be able to identify the number in the ones and tens place, add and subtract double digit numbers, greater than and less than, write numbers to 120, know ten more/ ten less/ one more/ one less from any number.

 

Social Science: This week the students will be learning about the presidents and famous Americans.

·     Yearbooks are now on sale for $24.00

·     Feb. 26th is a half-day with students being released at 12:00 for teacher in-service.

·     Read Across America is March 3rd - 7th. The book fair will also be that week. Look for more information soon.

·     Reading night will be on Tuesday, March 4th beginning at 6:00pm in the lunchroom. Please make plans to join us!

·     Adjectives and reviewing sentences

Math: This week the students will be learning how to subtract double digits

(ex: 77 –20 =57) .  Keep reviewing double digit addition, expanded notation, and place value

 

Social Science: This week the students will be learning about dental health.

·     Feb. 26th is a half-day with students being released at 12:00 for teacher in-service.

·     Dr. Seuss t-shirts are on sale for $10.00 if you would like to purchase one for your child. Sale ends Feb. 28.

(ex: 24+50=74)

 

Social Science: This week the students will be learning about Valentine’s Day!

 

**Important Reminders/ Dates**

·     Our Valentine’s Day party will be Friday, Feb. 14th at 1:30pm. Please don’t forget to send in your money for the party and your child’s Valentine Day cards for each student in his/her class.

·     Progress Reports will go home Thursday, Feb.13th in your child’s folder.
